Space Is Not Empty transcends the conventional boundaries of self-help, mindfulness,

and leadership literature.

Two pioneering change leaders invite you to recognize the impact of fields on you, others, and the world.

Fields are seemingly invisible realms that we can sense and influence.

About Alan

My interest in archetypal psychology, mythology, wisdom traditions, and the unconscious life of groups has shaped a lifelong personal and professional journey. Trained in depth psychology and organizational development, I studied the history of social institutions—from prisons and mental asylums to public schools—before turning my attention to the workplace as a living social system. As an organizational consultant, primarily in health care and education, I have been inspired by the courage, resilience, and moral complexity leaders and practitioners face each day. This work has taught me that meaningful change arises not from control, but from cultivating attention, imagination, and attunement to the larger fields in which people and systems operate. As Martin Buber wrote, “all real living is meeting,” a principle that has shaped my consulting work throughout my career.

I am co-founder of the Collective Wisdom Initiative and the author and co-author of The Stirring of Soul in the Workplace, The Power of Collective Wisdom (Nautilus Award), Daily Miracles (Book of the Year, American Journal of Nursing), and Space Is Not Empty (with Mary V. Gelinas). I earned my doctorate in psycho-social development from the Wright Institute and have served in long-term coaching and advisory roles with organizations including the George Lucas Educational Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and the Goi Peace Foundation.
