"New capacity and intelligence emerges through connections: from cell to cell, dendrite to dendrite, human to human, group to group. As extraordinary and mysterious as the experience of profound connection—and of collective wisdom emerging—may feel in the moment, collective wisdom as a phenomenon is natural, even potentially ordinary."
~ The Power of Collective Wisdom: And the Trap of Collective Folly
We often speak of entropy as being a fundamental principle of the universe. Things fall apart. All things are in a perpetual state of dying…
However, as Alan Watts reminds us:
“Really, the fundamental, ultimate mystery — the only thing you need to know to understand the deepest metaphysical secrets — is this: that for every outside there is an inside and for every inside there is an outside, and although they are different, they go together.”
So the opposite of entropy would be emergence – the way complex systems and patterns arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions.
And from this we can derive that coming into being is as natural as falling water. The universe plays.
